A CANAANITE TERRACOTTA PERFUME JUGLET

Middle Bronze Age IIB-C; 1730-1550 BCE

This juglet with black burnished slip consists of an piriform body on a button base with an everted rim. A single handle is drawn from just below the rim to the shoulder of the vessel.

In good condition with large chip on rim, otherwise in fine condition with natural patina present.

Height: 10 cm (3.93 inches)

This juglet was used for the containment of perfume and other precious oils. Although belonging firmly to the MBII B-C period this vessel's slightly ovoid body hearkens back to the earlier MBI vessels and illustrates well the subtle changes seen in such juglets during the Middle Bronze Age period. .
